How Much Does Social Media Management Cost in Canada? A 2026 Breakdown

Most Canadian businesses pay roughly $1,400 to $3,500 CAD a month for professional social media management in 2026, and bigger agency engagements average closer to $7,000 CAD a month. Hiring the role in-house in Toronto runs $81,810 to $103,680 a year in salary alone, according to the Robert Half Canada Salary Guide. Where you land depends on how many platforms you are on, who makes the content, and whether ads sit inside the fee or next to it.

Those numbers come from three places worth knowing. HeyOrca surveyed almost 100 agencies for its 2026 pricing benchmarks and found that 49% charge between $1,000 and $2,499 USD a month, 31% charge under $1,000, and only 3% charge $5,000 or more. Clutch, which builds its figures from verified client reviews, puts the average monthly spend with a social media agency at $5,107 USD and lists Canadian agencies at $100 to $149 an hour. Most projects reviewed on Clutch come in under $10,000, which tells you the average is being pulled up by a handful of very large retainers.

The cheapest number is rarely the real price. A $900 package usually means someone schedules twelve posts from templates and sends you a screenshot of likes at the end of the month. Nobody is wrong to sell that. But it is not strategy, and it will not move a business that needs customers walking through the door.

So what actually changes the quote? Five things, mostly:

  • How many platforms are managed, and whether each one gets its own content or the same post resized

  • Who produces the photos and video: you on your phone, a template library, or a real shoot

  • Community management, meaning someone answers comments and DMs every day

  • Paid social, where the management fee is separate from the ad budget itself

  • Reporting that ties posts to leads or sales instead of reach alone

Doing it in-house is not the bargain it looks like. Job Bank, using Statistics Canada data, puts the median wage for a social media manager in Ontario at $57.44 an hour. Add benefits, software and the simple fact that one person rarely shoots, edits, writes and runs ads equally well, and a good agency retainer often costs less than a single salary. The trade-off is proximity. An in-house hire knows your business on day one, while an agency needs a proper brief and a few weeks to learn your voice.

Social platforms also stopped being the only place people find you. Customers now ask ChatGPT and Perplexity which restaurant, clinic or contractor to trust, and those answers lean on what is published and repeated about you across the web, your social channels included. A feed that posts consistently, says plainly what you do and earns real reviews and mentions is working for search and AI answers at the same time. That is part of what you are paying for now, whether the agency mentions it or not.

At VRN Creative, social media management lives inside our Digital Ecosystem service, starting at $6,000+ CAD per project. It covers website design and build, Google Business Profile and local SEO, social media setup and management, AI search visibility and monthly reporting. We package it that way on purpose, because social posts that point to a weak website or an unclaimed Google profile leak the attention they worked so hard to earn.

The best social work we do looks like a system, not a feed. For the BC Beauty & Wellness Expo, North Vancouver's first curated wellness expo, we built the event production and a paid media engine together, so every post, ad and partner mention pushed toward the same goal. The room was full. What I love about that project is that no single post did it. The structure did.

So what should you budget? If you need consistent posting on one or two platforms with content you mostly supply, plan for the low end of that range. If you want strategy, original content, community management and paid social working together, expect the middle to upper end, plus a separate ad budget. And if a quote looks too good, ask exactly what happens each week. The answer will tell you what you are really buying.
